The first step to properly take care of your skin is individual diagnosis. Each skin type requires a slightly different treatment approach to bring it to a balanced state. You can then enjoy younger looking skin. Keep in mind that your skin condition changes over time. Normal skin can become dry over the years and treatment needs to be adjusted over time to maintain healthy skin.

Normal skin

This is a fair colored skin type with a young look that seems healthy and smooth with no dry areas or greasy areas in the face. The skin is balanced, soft, and flexible to the touch with medium pores. Usually there are no sores and acne on the skin, and acne may seldom appear, especially before the menstrual cycle. Normal skin needs more nourishment and moisturizing, and after cleaning it feels relaxed, fresh, and looks clean even in the middle of the day.

Dry skin

Dry skin usually looks more stretched, feels dry, and is prone to redness and peeling in various areas of the face.  When the skin is not taken care of properly it can develop a grey shade. There are different reasons for dry skin; sometimes it occurs because of change of weather, air conditioning, and sun or wind exposure. Therefore, if you spend most of the day in a chilly place with dry air, it is recommended to use a humidifier to help prevent the skin from drying.  There might be a situation in which there is low and insufficient activity of the skin’s sebaceous glands. In this case, the skin does not produce the natural oil needed to keep the skin flexible and soft. It is important to keep the skin moist, and to apply moisturizing cream after washing your face, or in situations where you feel dryness accompanied by discomfort.

Oily skin

This skin type has a greasy shine, feels oily to the touch, and oily spots can appear on the face. Usually by the middle of the day the skin feels greasy and a shine appears all over the face. The external skin layer (epidermis) is thick and the pores are enlarged. For both men and women, the sebaceous glands are subject to hormonal changes, and the oily skin is usually a result of over activation of these glands. The skin tends to go through frequent outbreaks of acne and suffers more from black and white spots. Therefore, it is necessary to balance the skin without drying it out so over production of oily matter (sebum) in the glands can be avoided. Diagnosis of the cause for over-secretion of oil can help with getting to normal and balanced skin without drying it out. Frequent cleaning of the skin with cosmetic products that match your skin type will reduce drying and gently clean your face from makeup and dirt that accumulates throughout the day.

Combination skin

Combination skin is oily in the center facial area (known as T area; forehead, nose and chin) and the rest of the face is dry or normal skin. This is the most common skin type. The oily area is characterized by enlarged pores, a tendency towards acne, and white and black spots. The oil and shine usually appear around midday, accompanied by a feeling of discomfort of the skin.

One of the most common reasons for the appearance of mixed skin is incorrect usage of cosmetic products. For example, cleaning the face with products that contain alcohol may irritate the skin and encourage increased production of grease in the center of the face while causing dryness in other areas. Combination skin type should be treated as normal skin, and products for oily skin should be used only in the oily areas. With time, and following proper and relatively short treatment of the oily area, the skin will balance. Then it is recommended to proceed to different treatment according to the facial skin’s new condition. It is recommended to do a gentle peeling treatment twice a week. This is in order to remove dead skin cells and keep the skin clean. After the treatment you should apply rich moisturizing cream on the dry areas.

Sensitive skin

Sensitive skin type is thin skin that looks and behaves as normal skin, with gentle pores. Frequently it is red with a tendency towards dryness. Sensitive skin will, in many cases, be immediately affected by contact with unsuitable skin care products that can be followed by a tingling sensation, itchiness, and a production of redness and spots. This skin will redden in sunlight, it often seems lifeless and colorless, and it tends to wrinkle easily. Skin sensitivity is due to genetic reasons, hormonal changes or usage of skin care products that do not match the skin type. This skin will also redden following any sting or rash. The skin can become sensitive during pregnancy or extreme diet and strict treatment is required. It is recommended to take care of sensitive skin with products that are rich in moisture to achieve a balanced normal state.

Acne – It is possible to suffer from acne at any age. Acne is an inflammation of the sebaceous glands and hair follicles. In the skin inflammation process the pH rises causing acne. Acne appears mainly during puberty, as a result of a bad reaction to the testosterone hormone. The body’s reaction to the hormone usually stabilizes over time, and with that the symptoms moderate or disappear. For this reason, it is important to use specially designed products with low pH that balance the skins acidity and sterilize and inhibit bacterial growth. Proper and daily cleaning of the facial skin assists with removing excess oil, dead skin cells and dirt, opening the pores, and prevents the creation of comedones (commonly called blackheads or whiteheads).

Anti-Aging – Skin aging is characterized by skin lesions, wrinkles, spots, and skin sensitivity. Following new discoveries in the skin aging process, modern cosmetics today deals with slowing the skin aging process. It is impossible to stop the aging, but it is possible to slow it down by leading a healthy life style with physical exercise and the right diet, keeping your facial and body skin healthy as well as maintaining positive mental health.

Dehydrated Skin –Dehydrated skin is characterized by lack of water and moisture whose purpose is to maintain the skin tissue’s elasticity. Dried skin can suffer from manifestations such as a stretchy feeling of the skin, dandruff, and the appearance of crinkling. It causes the skin to look greyish or even reddish, breakable and brittle, as well as cause wrinkles. The body needs sufficient amounts of moisture which it gets through the vascular system as well as absorbing it from the air and external applications. To avoid dehydrated skin, it is important to use moisturizing cream from a young age in order to avoid early dryness of the facial and body skin. It is also important drink a lot of water.

Pigmentation – Spots on the skin can appear at any age following sun exposure, medication, and hormonal changes. The melanin that composes the pigmentation is a substance that is created deep in the skin and is created to protect the skin. The natural hormonal changes that come with age signal this in the form of dark skin spots that appear all over the body. To treat the existing skin spots and to make them disappear, efficient cosmetic treatment is needed with active creams, peeling, and skin lightening products.

Seborrhea – Also known as Seborrheic Dermatitis. It is a type of eczema which is a skin condition that is exhibited by excessive secretion of sebum to the skin. The function of the sebaceous glands in a normal state is to produce a substance named sebum which is a natural moisturizer that protects the skin from external elements. People who suffer from seborrhea produce sebum with a high concentration of protein. The symptoms of this condition are redness and peeling of the skin, surplus of grease on the skin, dry dandruff, and itchiness. The areas in which seborrhea symptoms will appear are the places in the body which have increased sebaceous glands, such as the scalp, face, ears, upper chest, and body folds.

Sensitivity – Skin sensitivity is a general description of numerous phenomena such as environmental factors (for example weather change), hormonal change, allergic reactions, and skin irritation due to contact with cosmetic products that contain chemicals that damage the skin. Many people with sensitive skin describe these reactions as a tingling and stinging sensation.
